Pediatric eye exams are especially important for children because their vision is still developing.  We strongly recommend that children have their first complete vision exam at the age of six months, then yearly thereafter. As infants become toddlers, then grow to be school-aged children, their visual motor and visual perceptual skills develop as the rest of their abilities mature. It is important to make sure their visual skills, and eye health are age appropriate in the same way it is important to reach other developmental norms. Pediatricians only do vision screenings for far vision. A visit to an optometrist is necessary for a comprehensive vision exam.

A comprehensive pediatric eye exam can be provided to evaluate visual skills, function, and determine if your child’s vision is optimal or in need of care.  Los Angeles Optometrist, Dr. Elise Brisco, O.D. did a Post-Doctorate Fellowship in Developmental Optometry and has devoted part of her practice to Children’s Vision that affects learning, reading, and sports. The Hollywood Vision Center – Optometry performs vision screenings at many schools in the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills area as part of their Hollywood Vision for Children outreach program.

As a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, Dr. Brisco has treated children for over 25 years with almost every developmental vision problem including:

  • Tracking or eye-movement difficulties
  • Strabismus (eye misalignment: Esotropia, Exotropia)) and amblyopia (lazy eye)
  • Eye teaming and eye-hand coordination problems
  • Vision problems stemming from brain injuries such as concussions
  • Dr. Brisco also evaluates and treats visual conditions such as refractive errors (nearsightedness, astigmatism, and farsightedness), congenital cataracts, conjunctivitis or pink eye and blocked tear ducts

The Hollywood Vision Center – Optometry sees young patients from Los Angeles to West Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Hollywood, Woodland Hills, Westwood, and throughout the region.  We have families visit us yearly from around the world including Italy, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Saudi Arabia. We have cared for tens of thousands of children and their families with many patients continuing to visit Dr. Brisco as they become adults, bringing their own children for care!
